The 15th annual V Festival,
sponsored by Virgin Media, at Weston Park, Kasabian delighted
crowds with a show of a lifetime playing all the favourites
plus Salt ‘n’ Pepa’s classic 80’s
hit ‘Push It’ – definitely not a warm
up for the closing show tomorrow!
Earlier in the day on the V stage, Paul Weller prepared
for his performance with a group hug with Richard Branson
and Dizzie Rascal, then proceeded to bring the house down
with classics and new material. Weston Park was brought
to a standstill as Madness recreated their legendary 1980’s
London sound in the heart of the Midlands. On
the fourth stage, up and coming US starlet Lissie made
an impact on the Virgin Media Union crowds with her
kooky folk sounds, confirming her to be one to watch
for 2011.
The Nissan Juke Arena at Hylands
Park hosted a surprise visit from Plan B who joined
Chase and Status for ‘End Credits’ and ‘Pieces’
after hotfooting it from his gig at Weston Park. He’d
left his trademark suit behind and ripped it up with
Dizzie Rascal at the side of stage to the drum ‘n’
bass beats.
V Festival Director, Bob Angus comments:
“The weekend has got off to a terrific start.
The fans we have on site here for our 15th V Festival
have made the bands feel like they’re playing
the set of their lives. Paul Weller opened our first
event in 1996 and played a set packed with classic anthems
in the sunshine at Chelmsford this evening to a rapturous
audience. We’re looking forward to what tomorrow
brings, and have no doubt that the Kings of Leon and
Kasabian will be too”.
For the very first time this year,
fans not at the event can catch all the action as it
happens via a live webcast at www.vfestival.com
thanks to Ovi by Nokia.
Tune in to Channel 4 and
4Music to see all the festival highlights from across
the weekend brought to you by Steve Jones, Alexa Chung,
Jameela Jamil and Matt Edmondson.

to, with 3 rooms of fun.
how it all started
The idea for V came in 1996
when Pulp's front man Jarvis Cocker announced he'd love
to play two outdoor venues in two days. Pulp's promoters
got together and came up with the idea of putting the
gig in two places giving fans in both the North and
South a chance to see the band. Then came the idea of
adding more bands to the bill, putting on a second stage
and letting people camp for the weekend.
V Festival is now in its 15th year and was the first
UK festival to operate over two days and swap line-ups
overnight. Since 96, some of the world’s greatest
performers have graced the stages including Radiohead,
Morrissey, The Strokes, Coldplay, Red Hot Chili Peppers,
Blur, Fatboy Slim, Kylie and the Killers. Both
sites at Hylands Park, Chelmsford and Weston Park, Staffordshire
will welcome rock sensation the Eels and the UK’s
hottest grime artist Tinie Tempah, as they both make
their debut performances. V Festival 2010 will also
mark the return of indie group Feeder fresh from some
recent time out and loaded with new material.
If you are new to the festival then here is some essential
advice.
